THE MOST GOOGLED HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
Google’s “here’s what people are searching for” data deep-dives are an Internet tradition at this point, but they don’t always paint Americans in the best light. Take this spring’s “Most Misspelled Words in Every State” list, which revealed that Wisconsin doesn’t know how to spell Wisconsin, and that New York and California are still figuring out how to spell beautiful. Or 2016’s big year-end report, which showed that the most searched-for fashion question was not, “How much waste does the fashion industry produce each year?” or even “Who is the new creative director of Balenciaga?” but “How do I cut the sleeves off a shirt?” Sigh. Luckily, Google’s list of trending Halloween costumes doesn’t paint such a depressing picture. Maybe that’s because Halloween costumes are inherently stupid, or maybe it’s the fact that 2017 has been a serious year, and there’s a subconscious understanding that it calls for serious costumes. Like, old-school, give a child minor heart palpitations tonight vibes.
Badass comic book characters Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn are in the top two spots, followed by a list of dead simple, mildly terrifying costumes. Clown, witch, pirate, zombie, ninja, monster, vampire, skeleton! People are not messing around this year. They are keeping it simple and they are keeping it scary. Here are the first 25 costumes on the list.
- Wonder Woman
- Harley Quinn
- Chucky The very best news? Not a Donald Trump in sight. Ahhhhhhhh, sweet relief. And what would be your costume of this halloween party at Kitty O'Sheas?
